ACP and CAAC Celebrate Six Years of Successful Cooperation

To celebrate six years of successful cooperation with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the US-China Cooperation Program (ACP) hosted a dinner banquet on March 25, 2010.  A total of 130 people including CAAC officials, US government officials, ACP members and EMDT/ATMET graduates attended the dinner. The Air Traffic Management Bureau, the CAAC Safety Technology Center, the Civil Aviation Management Institute, the Civil Aviation University and the Beijing Capital Airport Group were also honored guests. ACP Co-chairman David Wang opened the dinner by briefly reviewing the past six years of cooperation between ACP and CAAC. David spoke highly of major achievements over the years and expressed his appreciation for CAAC’s continued and strong support.

ACP Co-chairman and FAA senior representative Pat Power praised the substantial support ACP has been receiving from Deputy Administrator Xia. He also remarked that FAA and CAAC have built a significant cooperative relationship which will continue to develop with the support of CAAC leaders.

Deputy Administrator Xia commented that during the past six years, CAAC had effectively cooperated with ACP on airports, transportation, safety and security, air traffic management and airworthiness certification management, and noted the great achievements made in these areas. ACP has become a model of friendship between the Chinese and US government in working towards aviation development.

Deputy Administrator Xia noted the six year anniversary of this relationship is an opportunity for CAAC to celebrate and showcase the successful cooperation it has helped broker between China and the US. During recent years, the Chinese aviation industry has increased at a rate of 20 percent each year. This development has received strong support from US government and industry, including TDA, FAA and Boeing. Currently, there is still room for improvement with high-speed technology, but CAAC is working hard to find solutions to these problems. In conclusion, Deputy Administrator Xia advocated for a closer cooperation between China and the US and stated that ACP can help bridge the two countries together for future collaborations.

US Embassy Economic Affairs Minister Counselor William Weinstein and US TDA Geoff Jackson spoke on behalf of the US government, and both CAAC and ACP felt the gathering was a great success.
