2011 US-China Aviation Summit

Congratulations to the Successful Conclusion of the
2011 US-China Aviation Summit
 
 

The 2011 US-China Aviation Summit, held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. from September 25-27, 2011, ends up to be a great success. About 340 total people with 88 Chinese attended. People in attendance expressed their expectation to get together again on the next summit in China.  

 

The 2011 summit was built upon previous highly successful aviation summits held approximately every two years in both the United States and China over the past decade. US high level officials in attendance include: FAA Administrator Babbitt, FAA Deputy Administrator Huerta, DOT Assistant Secretary Kurland, Commerce Secretary Blank, TSA Administrator Pistole, and TDA Director Zak. From Chinese side there was the CAAC Deputy Administrator (DA) Xia and Director Generals in many departments, plus leaders from Chinese airlines, airports, CAAC Institutes, NDRC, SATCC, and aviation manufacturers.
 
Topics at the summit include International cooperation, Airport, General Aviation, Air Traffic management, Airline operations and trainings.
 
Before the Summit starts, the CAAC delegation (around 60 officials) was divided into four groups. The four groups had site trips to Washington DC, Chicago, Memphis/St. Louis, and Louisville respectively. The purpose of the side is to visit FedEx, UPS big cargo airlines hub operation; AA, UA big passenger airlines hub operation, giant capacity airport system operation and general aviation system.
 
On the opening ceremony CAAC DA Xia made a speech. DA Xia said: “In 2004 the US - China Aviation Summit was incorporated into the framework of ACP. Over the past 11 years the summit played an exceptional role in strengthening exchanges between the civil aviation sectors of China and the US. On behalf of CAAC, I would like to express our sincere thanks to USTDA, FAA, and the US companies involved in ACP program.”
 
From 2004 to 2011, the US TDA has 7 times to provide a total of US$8.3 million grants to CAAC for projects in aircraft airworthiness certification, flight standards management, air traffic management, airport management and GA. These projects help to build and operate a safe and efficient aviation system in China.
